The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a permanent intergovernmental organization established in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Over the years, it has expanded to include India and Pakistan (joined in 2017) and Iran (joined in 2023), making it one of the largest regional organizations in terms of geographic scope and population.

One of the organization’s key roles lies in counter-terrorism and security collaboration, facilitated through its Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS), headquartered in Tashkent.
